Montverde
This small town in Lake County is nestled among the gently rolling hills that inspired its name. Montverde, one foot in the past, the other firmly planted in the present, has a refreshing country, laid-back vibe. A peaceful community, it feels far away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando yet is actually only around a half-hour’s drive from all of its urban amenities. Located on the Western shore of Lake Apopka, with its Southwestern edge almost touching Florida’s Turnpike.
Montverde has a strong sense of community. Once an agricultural area, Montverde still has a very rural feel and is brimming over with small-town warmth. Many residents are heavily involved in the community, actively helping to maintain their quality of life. The town has a variety of community events throughout the year.
You’re never far from the water. Montverde residents have easy access to two lakes – Lake Apopka and Lake Florence. The former is Florida’s third largest lake, with a surface area of 30,800 acres, and it’s once again becoming one of the Orlando area’s favorite attractions due to the restoration efforts of the Friends of Lake Apopka and the Lake Apopka Restoration Act. As for Lake Florence, it’s located within the border of Montverde and extends across 130 acres. There are quite a few residences around the lake, most (if not all) with their own private docks and boat ramps.
There’s plenty of open space with various parks and Ferndale Preserve which features a playground and a mile-long equestrian/hiking trail. Montverde is also home to one of the top prep schools in the country. Ever since Montverde Academy opened its doors here in 1912, it has been one of the town’s defining features. The independent co-ed college preparatory school has a beautiful campus encompassing around 130 acres and is known for its rigorous academic program and award-winning athletic teams.
Montverde’s housing market reflects the slowly changing face of the town and the area as a whole. Here you’ll find historic homes on lush, heavily treed lots in established neighborhoods, as well as, custom-built luxury residences in gated communities. Single-family homes are the predominant property type.
